Better Tomorrow Than Today

Better Tomorrow Than Today

World Premiere

Synopsis

Director

South-Korea seemingly, is one of the most succesful countries in the world having given birth to globally acclaimed pop culture, entertainment and film industry and ubiquitous technology giants. Life in the country’s cities changes by every second running in competition with the latest architectural and urban trends, and the buzz in Seoul or Busan doesn’t fall short of other top metropolises if to judge by energy or diversity of offerings. But the ultrasonic jump from a small underdeveloped agrarian country in Asia to the top of the charts of world’s economic giants has produced its victims turning South Korea into a country with one of the highest levels of economic and social stratification, along with producing a new underclass of low income, temporarily employed citizens.

The heroine of the film, Hae Jeong is a twentysomething young woman whose everyday repeats itself via sequences of temp jobs at a cafe and a gymn to pay for her night time studies in the vocational school for fashion designers. She dreams of future of making it in the real fashion business, but her continuous efforts do not bear fruit – once she is asked for a university diploma, then again a certificate of having studied abroad – both out of reach for finacical reasons.

Fusing documentary elements with slow burning, yet touching indie drama, „Better tomorrow, than today“ is an impactful peek into the lives of young underclass Koreans and their dreams, broken hopes and expectations for better work and future.
