Basmati Blues

Basmati Blues

Synopsis

Director

„Basmati Blues“ is a musical comedy that takes us to colourful, vibrant India and as it is very often the case with films doused in Bollywood „spontaneous song and dance“ tradition – journey is always more important than destination itself. That is especially the case for all the film lovers who happened to grow up in Soviet Union and the constant bombardment of Bollywood cinema.

For that generation „Basmati Blues“ is a refreshing dose of nostalgia. For a younger generation this is a chance to understand what the older generation is on about when they so fondly talk about Bollywood.

Dan Baron

wanted to tell stories already in the early childhood, because at his family’s very loud dinner-table there was always competition over who would tell the best story. From thereon everything took its natural course. Before starting the filming of „Basmati Blues“ Baron spent a year in India writing the script, trying to find inspiration and searching for film sets. He has directed two short films before „Basmati Blues“ – a fake documentary „Assault on Empire State Mountain“ and a comedy western „Hang ’Em Really High, Real Soon“.
