La Vida Lliure

La Vida Lliure

World Premiere

Synopsis

Director

Two little siblings live in the island of Menorca at the turn of XX century. Their parents are gone so they live in the countryside with their uncle, „Es Conco“, who takes care of them while he cultivates the farm in the raw nature. The kids play around learning all about the island in a kind of a magic mode – not only by the things you see but by the stories related to them and all the legends that grow around in the stunning environment. The past, the present and the future meet in one place where tales and real facts intermingle. One day, the children discover a ship on the bay, which is like an icon of a human wish – present while unattainable.

Actors´ using the gesture and glazes rather than words, the enjoyable contemplation of the playful wanderings of the siblings, the exquisite landscape of a fairy-tale island and the patient while precious style of the director lines up a plot with different layers. Where does the reality end and the legend starts? Nothing is what it seems on those lands, and while childhood is vanishing the time for taking decisions is arriving.

The always imposing presence of the by-his-own-style seductor Catalan actor Sergi López („Pan’s Labyrinth“, „Potiche“ etc) and the language of the protagonists (the original version is in Menorquí, sub-dialect of Catalan, spoken in Menorca, Balearic Islands) helps the story to be rooted while bringing the audience to that almost mystic place.
