Synopsis

Director

Alma (Luise Heyer) and Jan (Alex Brendemühl) are having an affair and yet Jan does not want to admit it. In order to force him to recognize their relationship, Alma secretly takes Jan’s small son, Juri on a trip. Accompanied by the delivery man Bruno (Lars Rudolph), the two drive in the direction of Berlin. At a rest stop, he tries clumsily to get closer to Alma but she rebuffs him. In doing so, Alma unwittingly injures him in such a way that he drops all his inhibitions. Whereas Bruno until now was acting covertly in the hope of establishing contact, he now wants to take for himself what has been denied him.
Called a „superb calling card for the director“ and a „genre thrill ride with a keen cinematic sensibility“ by the Hollywood Reporter, this small, dark, expertly executed potboiler is the debut of Nina Vukovic, who earlier co-wrote the screenplay for the fairytale „Nevermore“ (which won a student Oscar in 2007).
One highlight of the film is the psychological duel that ensues between the two men in the bar next to the station. Surprisingly, this are mostly no built sets; due to budget restrictions Vukovic mostly used everyday places and spaces and their sounds, infusing them with a sense of horror. Get your seatbelts fastened!
