Synopsis

Director

God abandoned this country a long time ago: Bulgaria, a broken society, consumed with greed, violence and social division. A handful of taxi drivers are on the road with their fares. Each journey illustrates a different section of society, in which ethics have been replaced by egotism and excess. When one of the drivers shoots a banker who has suddenly demanded twice the usual bribe for a loan, the news spreads like wildfire among the other drivers. Is the perpetrator a murderer or a hero?
„Directions“ is an episodic portrait of a European country heading for the abyss.
„Under Komandarev’s steady directorial hand, this Greek chorus is captured by a mobile camera, its urgent single takes adding layers of tension to each episode. These feel like real people with real stories and, through the film’s excellent ensemble cast, the fragile humanity behind each inspires our empathy.
Komandarev’s take on his homeland reveals a good-natured heart whose deep-down optimism makes the ride to redemption all the more enjoyable“. – Dimitri Eipides, Toronto Film Festival
