Synopsis

Director

Abu Shadi is a divorced father and a school teacher in his mid-60s living in Nazareth. After his daughter’s wedding in one month he will be living alone. Shadi, his architect son, arrives from Rome after years abroad to help his father in hand delivering the wedding invitations as per local Palestinian custom. As the estranged pair spend the day together, the tense details of their relationship come to a head challenging their fragile and very different lives.

Palestine has submitted the film as a candidate for foreign language film Oscar.

Annemarie Jacir

(b. 1974, Bethlehem, Palestine) is a pioneer filmmaker in the region and part of a new wave of Arab filmmakers who have made a name on the international scene. Named one of Filmmaker magazine’s 25 New Faces of Independent Cinema, two of her films have premiered as Official Selections at the Cannes Film Festival, one as an Academy Award finalist, and one in Venice. Her first feature film, „Salt of this Sea“ (Cannes 2008), was Palestine’s Oscar Entry for Best Foreign Film and was noted as the first feature film directed by a Palestinian woman. „Salt of this Sea“ won the prestigious FIPRESCI Critic’s Prize, amongst other awards. „Wajib“ is her third full-length feature film.
