Children of the Fall

Children of the Fall, "Yaldey Ha'Stav"

World Premiere

Synopsis

Director

This is not just a horror movie like a classic John Carpenter or Wes Craven slasher. This is so much more.

It’s the early 1970’s and young Rachel arrives in Israel to discover her jewish roots. She becomes a volunteer in kibbutz. But it soon becomes clear that she is not welcomed as a long-lost relative and on Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement something happens that gives the holiest day of the year a whole different meaning...

The Israeli director Eitan Gafny uses cleverly this popular entertainment genre with all its cliches to tell us something very important about his country and the intolerance and xenophobia prevailing there. That rarely happens.

This film with its subtext of strong social criticism points at the deep wounds and contradictions in the consciousness of the Jewish people. The nation that has been repressed time and again and who has found no other cure for its posttraumatic stress than to lash out.
