“MUSIC OF THE FUTURE”
Regular Crisis: A Cantata on the Global Economy
A film by Marina Landia with music by Louis Andriessen, Bryce Dessner, Jonny Greenwood, Kristjan Järvi and others.
Estonian National Symphony Orchestra
Conductor KRISTJAN JÄRVI
Economy and music – a unique evening in ENSO's season programme!
The multimedia cantata by video and performance artist Marina Landia combines both video projections and a large-scale symphony orchestra. The video material has been compiled from interviews with the key figures in the global industry and finance, including José Ángel Gurría, the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Economic Co-operation and Development; Manfred Bischoff, the Chairman of the Council of the German automobile manufacturer Daimler; and media mogul Steve Forbes. The live soundtrack of the film is by the Dutch composer Louis Andriessen; the American composer residing in France and the guitarist of the indie-rock band The National, Bryce Dessner; the English composer and the lead guitarist and keyboardist of the alternative-rock band Radiohead, Jonny Greenwood; Kristjan Järvi, and others.
Regular Crisis reflects the 'mental state' of the influential figures of the global economy and studies their values, philosophies and mindset.
The tensions that the live music skilfully conveys create fantastic impressions, offering a rather unusual point of view on the current state and potential future of the global economy.
The work was premiered in October 2016 by the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kristjan Järvi.
The concert will begin with a panel discussion by outstanding visionaries from Estonia and abroad sharing their thoughts on the international economy.
